Hello world!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 5, 2011 by AndrewS

This is a blog about  gardening, hunting, home ownership, disaster preparation, fitness and self sufficiency in the beautiful and abundant Northeast Ohio.

I have a goal of building/renovating a house on a bit of property, growing and hunting a substantial portion of my own food, and being clever about energy production and efficient use to be as self-sustaining as possible.  I’m not giving up the comforts of modern civilization, and I’m not a hippie.  The challenge my generation faces is how to reconcile an exploding population and the rapid development of the world with our sharply limited supply of fossil fuels and the consequences of not planning ahead.

About me:  I’m a young man, formerly a machinist,  studying civil and environmental engineering.  I’ve never hunted.  I’ve never personally grown more than green onions.  I’m fat.  I’m poor.  I live in a tiny urban apartment with the love of my life.  I have a long way to go before I’m where I want to be, BUT: I’m resourceful.  I’m handy.  I’m hard working.  I’m optimistic.  I’m determined.

This blog will be a record of my transition from where I am to where I want to be.  I hope somebody, someday, finds this interesting and useful.  If not, it’ll at least help keep me on track.

I’m enough of a geek to know the significance of “Hello World!” so I’m going to leave that as my first post title.
